Nourishing Little Ones, Supporting Growing Families

March 1, 2026

At Southeast Community Health Systems (SCHS), we believe every family deserves access to healthy food, trusted nutrition guidance, and supportive community resources. That’s why we’re proud to offer the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program — a federal nutrition initiative designed to help families thrive from pregnancy through early childhood.

What Is WIC?

WIC stands for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, a federally funded program that helps eligible families access nutritious foods, nutrition education, and breastfeeding support — all at no cost. It’s focused on promoting healthy growth and development for:

  • Pregnant and postpartum women
  • Breastfeeding moms
  • Infants
  • Children up to age 5

Through WIC, families receive valuable tools and support that make healthy eating and parenting easier — not just during pregnancy, but far into early childhood.

Healthy Foods Made Easier

One of the cornerstones of WIC is access to healthy, wholesome foods that fuel your family’s growth and well-being. With benefits that often include:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Milk, eggs, and cheese
  • Whole grains and beans
  • Baby foods and cereals

Benefits are delivered through an easy-to-use eWIC card that works much like a debit card at approved grocery stores and farmers’ markets.

Personalized Support & Education

WIC isn’t just about food — it’s about education and empowerment. Participants gain access to:

  • Nutrition counseling tailored to your family’s needs
  • Breastfeeding education and support from trained professionals
  • Guidance on choosing healthy foods and planning balanced meals
  • Referrals to healthcare and other community services

Whether you’re preparing for your first baby or raising toddlers, this kind of one-on-one support can make daily decisions feel easier and more confident.

Convenient WIC Services Through SCHS

At SCHS, we serve families at multiple WIC clinic locations across Southeast Louisiana — including Zachary & Greensburg, with flexible hours and extended appointment times to fit your schedule.

Appointments are required and conducted in person, and the program is completely free for eligible families — no insurance needed.
